The last few months, my kitchen has been transformed into a funny and colourful workshop. Finally, I feel that I have cracked the code and experimenting with both color options and how they are investigating to different fiber types. An amazing new world, I have the pleasure to explore, Gail Callahan from Gail Callahan and this video.

The method I use most at the moment, I will show in this little photo shoot. The end product is at the top of this post, and consists of 50% merino and 50% bamboo. First I put the fibers in  zigzag and binds them together a bit, so it´s possible to handle the wet fibers.

The fibers are soaked in water containing a little citric acid, salt and detergent. This is done because it´s important to have completely clean fibers, because the colour may otherwise come in uneven patches. Citric acid and salt are the mordants used to get the chemical process in motion so that the colours are bounded to the fibers.

The following pictures show how I have painted the roving.

And finally, I come the coloured roving in a  dish, cover it with film and leave the fibers bake one hour in the oven.
